Exclusion Criteria
Musculoskeletal ultrasound, although a powerful tool in the right hands, has some unavoidable limitations worth considering before booking a scan.

Extensive Scarring over the area

Severe Obesity

Intra-articular pathology (Inside the joint) - Frozen shoulder
Certain contraindications also prohibit successful completion of an ultrasound examination and therefore render an ultrasound scan inappropriate

Refusal to consent to the examination

No capacity to provide informed consent

Scanning over open wounds or areas of debridement

Presence of infectious or contagious conditions (Although this would be risk assessed and determined on a case by case basis depending on the risk to patient and staff)
Furthermore, Inner - vision have made the decision to exclude certain criteria based on experience, knowledge of own limitations and in the patients best interests. We have a duty of care to our patients and this will always be our priority. Any referrals which unfortunately are rejected will be accompanied by a full justified explanation and advice where possible

Any patient with suspected cancer. These should be referred through the two week wait referral pathway.

Superficial masses/lumps in the neck, axilla or groin
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Shoulder
Dynamic investigation of the Rotator cuff anatomy including visible tendons, ligaments and bursae
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Elbow
Dynamic investigation of the Tendons and ligaments of the elbow
and associated bursae, articular surface of the joints and major nerves
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Wrist
Assessment of the flexor and extensor tendons of the wrist and associated nerves
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Hand
Dynamic assessment of the flexor and extensor tendons in the hand
and fingers, articular surfaces of the joints and synovial sheaths.
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Knee
Detailed assessment of the compartments of the knee including tendons, ligaments, bursae and visible areas of the joints within the knee.
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Ankle
Dynamic assessment of the Anterior (Front), Posterior (Back), Lateral and
Medial (Sides) of the ankle joint including tendons, ligaments and
associated major nerve branches
Musculoskeletal Scan of the Foot
Soft tissue scan of lumps/bumps
Detailed assessment of the visible extra-articular components of the joints within the foot and the associated fascia, tendons, ligaments and bursae
Descriptive report on palpable lumps or bumps under the skin surface
Excluding axilla (Under the arm), groin, pelvis or breast or in those with
suspected cancer.
